Opera and Ballet Theater named after. A. Maldybaeva
The Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. Maldybaev has come a long and glorious way in its history, becoming the center of musical culture of the Kyrgyz Republic. The beginning of Kyrgyz professional theatrical art is considered to be 1926, when the first music and drama studio was formed in Frunze (now Bishkek). In 1930, on the basis of this studio, where mainly representatives of amateur performances were engaged, the Kyrgyz State Drama Theater was formed.
During these years, wonderful professional musicians, composers, conductors, artists, directors, and teachers came to Kyrgyzstan, who provided invaluable assistance and influence on the further development of theatrical art. In 1937, the first musical drama “Altynkyz” (Golden Girl) was staged to the music of V. Vlasov and V. Fere with a libretto by Zh. Bokonbaev. With the release of the play “Altyn Kyz” in the 1926-1937 season, the drama theater was transformed into a musical drama theater.
Over its glorious path, the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater has staged over 200 operas and ballets. Theater performances: “Boris Godunov”, “Prince Igor”, “Eugene Onegin”, “The Queen of Spades”, “Cherevichki”, “Oprichnik”, “Iolanta”, “Swan Lake”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Mermaid”, “ Aida", "Rigoletto", "Optimistic Tragedy", "La Traviata", "Carmen", "Tosca", "Cio - Cio - San", "Don Carlos", "Faust", "Mephistopheles", "La Boheme", " Mother's Field", "Cholpon", "Tomiris", "Macbeth", "La Bayadère" and many other productions at different stages of its development indicate the continuous creative search of the theater staff. Such masterpieces of national classics as the opera “Manas”, “Toktogul” and “Kurmanbek” were staged in their native language. A large group of talented performers has worked and is working at the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater.
