Lenin monument

The monument to Lenin was placed behind the Historical Museum, opposite the Jogorku Kenesh building. The statue of Lenin was located on the main square of the city and adorned the capital for nineteen years. It is made of bronze and weighs about 17 tons, and together with the frame structure - about 20 tons. The monument was moved on November 7, 2003. Bishkek is the only city that has preserved a statue of Lenin in Central Asia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The government of Kyrgyzstan decided to preserve the monument as part of the history of the country and in support of this decision a special law was adopted to preserve the statue.
